Postmodernism Ruined Me

But I'm Sure We Can Analyze That Together

3 notes

You know what terrifies me?

Dentistry.

So at the end of May, I finally went to the dentist and got all cleaned out. They told me I had three cavities: one was actually in an old filling spot that apparently didn’t seal very well (thanks doc) and two were actually side by side so really only one, but over the two teeth. At the time, I asked if I could wait a few months because I was moving and had no dentist, and they said “sure, it’s only the beginning of it, you’ll be fine. They’re not that deep yet.”

So now I have been having extremely minor tooth pain and have been TERRIFIED that I need root canals. Or that they’ll have to take the teeth all out and they’ll be all rotted.

And dentists always make it sound like its a moral failing on your part. I don’t get this from any of my other doctors.

And seriously, teeth are a terrible invention. Let’s make bones that are sensitive to acid in foods humans eat and make them be in the one place those acids are. Let’s also make them not completely uniform and have tiny spaces in between them.

In short, I’m terrified. Half because of the fear of pain and half because of the moral judgement. Which I don’t even understand. I brush twice a day, mouthwash twice, floss once. I barely drink pop and I have a very large amount of calcium in my diet. All my other doctors think I’m doing lovely, why won’t you love me, dentist!

…..

It’s going to be a long month…
